The newly hired coach of the Argentine national team Edgardo Bauza had revealed that his plans include stopping five time FIFA World best Lionel Messi from retiring from international football.

The coach mentioned that getting the player back is the top on his agenda when he fully resumes in charge of the national team.

The coach was named this week as the replacement for former coach Gerardo Martino who resigned a month ago immediately after the loss at the Copa America centenario in the United States. Martino led the team to two successive Copa America finals which both ended in losses to Chile in penalty shoot outs. Chile won the Copa America title on both occasions with the last forcing Messi to resign as he lost his penalty kick and the team eventually lost the title despite a brilliant run to the final.

The player who is only 29 years decided to walk away from the national team citing internal problems in the Football Federation as another reason. The loss is the fourth in a major tournament and it left him really distraught. The new coach says he will include the player in the South American World Cup qualifiers set for September as he hopes to convince the Barcelona star player to rescind his decision.

“I am optimistic about Messi. I hope the chat with him will help him to carry on in the national team. I want to explain to Messi what my idea is. The least of my worries is his position on the pitch. There is no need to convince Messi of anything, the plan is to talk about football,” the new coach said. Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli rejected the job to lead the team as he took over at Sevilla just last month following the move of former boss Unai Emery to lead Paris St. Germain.
