HOW CHILE REWARDED IN-FORM DIEGO RUBIO

Chilean striker Diego Rubio will be part of the national team squad for the double World Cup qualifiers between now and next week. He was given an opportunity with the La Roja on the back of his good club form. Diego Rubio plays for Colorado Rapids in the MLS (Major League Soccer).

Rubio, 27, has scored three goals and provided three assists in 16 MLS outings for the Colorado Rapids this season. He was recently named in the MLS Team of the Week for his performance in week 24. The Chilean made the final team of the week for the regular MLS season after his last gasp strike against hosts Houston Dynamo at the weekend.

Diego Rubio made his mark on the Houston Dynamo game as a second half substitute. He came on American player Jonathan Lewis on 64 minutes before producing the late strike that gave his team a 2-1 victory away from home and also handed him a spot on the bench of the MLS Team of the Week for week 24. Another substitute Younes Namli gave the Burgundy Boys a 61st minute opener only for that lead to last for eight minutes with Colombian striker Mauro Manotas netting the equalizer for Houston Dynamo. Colorado Rapids, however, had the last laugh with the late goal from Diego Rubio.

Colorado Rapids have had at least one representative in each of the last three gameweeks in the MLS, but Diego Rubio was only good for the bench in the latest gameweek. Rubio would be hoping to be a part of the Chilean teams for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at home to Peru on Friday, November 13 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying trip to Venezuela on Tuesday, November 17. Chile have just one point from two matches and are seventh on the South American standings as far as the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament are concerned.
