Jorge Sampaoli reckons defeating Brazil just after the Copa America glory would earn Chile a lot of respect in the Football world. Chile got better of Brazil in a World Cup qualifier yesterday and they did so comprehensively.
Yes, the Selecao in the absence of Neymar was probably not as strong as they probably would have been if the striker had been there, but, they were still a solid unit and to get better of them by a margin of 2 goals, it was a laudable show by Chile.
Speaking in the media conference later in the evening, Sampaoli, who was delighted to the maximum, said, “We have been able to beat another top team. Argentina not a long while back and now, Brazil, we can be pretty proud of these two wins.”
“When you put up such sorts of performances, not only does it boost your own confidence, it makes people all around the world take notice of you. The respect automatically increases. Playing like this, I believe we would be able to make it to Russia.”
“The good thing to see was that we did not let Brazil make too many chances and mind you, they are not a side which likes to be on the back foot. They have an attacking mindset and they go for the kill, but, we kept them in check for almost the entire period of the game.”
“It was a vital contest. We were keen to start off on a high and everyone rose to the occasion. A positive result here certainly gives us a nice momentum moving forward to take on Peru.”
Chile’s game against Peru, which lost to Colombia by 0-2, is going to take place on the coming Tuesday in Lima.
