Ryan Giggs Defends Alexis Sanchez Amid Manchester United Regret Talk
Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has come in the defence of Alexis Sanchez amid speculation that the Red Devils’ hierarchy are regretting the Chilean’s arrival at Old Trafford. The 29-year-old made the surprise switch to Jose Mourinho’s side last month after they agreed on a swap deal with Arsenal which involved Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Since then, Sanchez has not been in the best of form for United with just one goal and two assists to his name, and this has spread rumours of the club’s board being discontent with the signing. Despite this, Giggs spoke positively about the Chile international, and believes the attacker will improve on his performance levels once his teammates start adapting to his style of play.
He told Sky Sports: “He’s a top player. He’s only scored one goal so far, so I’m sure he’d want to do better than that, but I think he’s done okay. His team-mates are still trying to find out what he likes, what he doesn’t like, the dynamics of the team. Sometimes it fits straight away, sometimes it takes a bit of time. I don’t think anyone should be worried about Alexis Sanchez, he’s a top, top player.”
Sanchez’s transfer to United came with a lot of hype with many expecting the Chilean to hit the ground running from the off. However, the Chilean has tended to lose possession of the ball more often than not on the playing field, and he may not play at his full tilt until next season, where he will have the luxury of a full pre-season with his teammates.
Nevertheless, the Chilean remains the club’s go-to man on the left side of the attack, in particular, and he will be expected to show up in the FA Cup and Champions League in March, where United face must-win games to maintain their quest for silverware this term.
